Advice regarding management of medication is fully consistent with British Thoracic Society guidelines – e.g. use your bronchodilator only when required for symptom control and continue regular inhaled steroids. All participants are instructed to seek the consent of their GP prior to any reduction in preventative medication. One of the fundamental principles underlying the use of breathing therapy in conditions such as asthma is that it is fully compatible with continuing conventional management. In fact, the Buteyko breathing technique is recognised by the British Thoracic Society as an effective method of controlling asthma symptoms.
